Women entrepreneurs are on the rise, and one flourishing fashion founder is focused on taking her Made in Italy brand to the peak of wardrobe sustainability. Founded in 2018 by 10-year couture industry veteran Desirée Madonna, Eticlò is changing the game with garments by focusing on slow fashion from shirts to skirts, and everything in between.

Desirée, who is also the brand's artistic director, spent a decade working in the United States before deciding to return home to Italy to pursue a new project supporting social responsibility, seeing as the textile industry is the second-largest industrial polluter in the world. Knowing this, she started her own label with a name that translates to "ethical closet" to emphasize the idea of conscious and responsible clothing. Her goal was not only to support sustainability but to create timeless pieces that stay durable for years and don't go out of style after each season or passing trend. Popular items may be kept in circulation for years, and new collections take shape based on the supply chain and customer preferences.

Desirée partners with Moda e Servizi, a Padua-based production and tailoring service with two female founders, to source natural and organic raw materials, create her designs, and package everything with the utmost care and attention to detail. On top of sourcing ethical fabrics and eco-friendly dyes, Eticlò can verify its supply chain through Moda e Servizi's services while ensuring the highest ethical standards are in place.

Beyond designing elegant women's wear, Eticlò recently released its first baby line for 0 to 12 months, along with a home decor line that includes towels, tablecloths, and more. Notably, the company is made up of 99% female employees, from the creative and artistic teams to production and sales, a decision that Desirée made early on when setting up Eticlò's foundation. As an entrepreneur herself, she's proud to help elevate women's roles in the fashion and textile industries, from the production floor to creative and managerial positions for influential organizations.
